Our method

  studio pilates institute

Pilates Institute is now the largest school for Pilates training in England. It was created by Michael King, Nuala Coobs and Malcom Murrihead. They all benefit from teaching Pilates for more than 25 years in the domain of dance, fitness and medical community.

Inspired by the original method and its exercises developed by Joseph Pilates in the 20's, a method dedicated primarily to the body of dancers or athletes, Pilates Institute has chosen to take a step back from this original repertoire usually very advanced and hard to achieve. They adapted and adjusted the original series of exercise to make it safer and more accessible for any person wishing to enjoy the benefits of Pilates training respecting the methods main Philosophy which was to help people take care of their bodies to achieve a more healthy and easier life. Joseph Pilates believed firmly that for a healthy mind we need a healthy and functional body that can help us get through our daily task with as much ease as possible! Therefore we need to learn to understand how our body functions and how we can get it to function more efficiently.

With this in mind The Pilates Institute has chosen to keep this strong massage alive by applying their new approach of exercises, all tailored to the needs of the participants of today’s lifestyle and society. On top of that their comprehensive training program (now also recognized by some health insurance companies) has seen a great success in Switzerland and also in over 25 countries worldwide as it is one of the very few schools that has been able to adapt all the exercises to today’s physical needs.

The method based on research physiotherapy

Pilates Institute developed its Pilates method and training in London in 1999, based on therapeutic research conducted by physiotherapists.
With these experimental research lead by three Australian physiotherapists known, Carolyn Richardson, Paul Hodges, Julie Hides and on the impact of the training of core muscles and back pain, they were able to demonstrate that with regular practice of the principles and basic movements of Pilates (which are neutral position of the pelvis, thoracic breathing, the soft contraction of the abdominal belt) back pain declined consequently in a few weeks.

It was then that Pilates Institute chose to adapt the entire program to make it safer and more effective for needs of today’s practitioners. Regardless of your fitness or your specific needs, the Pilates Institute with its targeted approach, will make you move and help you reach your full physical potential. Pilates Institute makes your progress effectively, quickly and with confidence!

Furthermore, Pilates Institute is working with various doctors' offices, in physiotherapy and osteopathy. This way it benefits from further exchange, thus achieving additional precision work and concrete results in the long run.
